Friday 31 March 2017 is Sustainable Seafood Day and there has never been a better time to get cray-zee in love with Australian seafood from a Commonwealth managed fishery.
With the many choices available, your tastebuds will be jumping with excitement.
Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) CEO, Dr James Findlay said that Sustainable Seafood Day is a great time to celebrate our local commercial fishing industry.
“Thanks to good management supported by the fishing industry, Australian consumers can enjoy sustainably harvested Commonwealth seafood” said Dr Findlay.
“Seafood lovers across the country have a smorgasbord of succulent seafood to choose from.
“Why not try tasty scallops from the Bass Strait which has just had its best season in 15 years, or yellowfin tuna from the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery which Australians love in sushi and sashimi, or the sweet-fleshed eastern school whiting.”
The results of independent assessments of AFMA’s performance speak for themselves with no solely Commonwealth managed fishery subject to overfishing – again!
With results like that, it is great time to celebrate this proud Australian industry and start planning your menu for Sustainable Seafood Day.
