Victorian Minister for Agriculture, Jaala Pulford, joined commercial and recreational fishers in Queenscliff to kick off the establishment of the new Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA).
The new VFA will drive jobs growth and export in Victoria’s commercial fishing and aquaculture sectors.
It will continue delivery of the Victorian Government’s recreational Target One Million initiative, aimed at getting more people fishing, more often.
Gail Owen, Order of Australia Medal recipient, was named as Chair of the new Authority, which will ensure the sustainable management of Victoria’s fisheries resources into the future.
Ms Owen has previously been an inaugural member of two boards and will provide strong leadership to establish the Authority.
Ms Pulford joined the Chair of the Authority to also reveal the organisation’s new logo.
