Good Friday breaming with sustainable top quality seafood

Australia’s world-leading sustainable fisheries management ensures people across the nation will have an abundance of healthy, top-quality seafood produce to choose from in the lead up to the 2018 Easter long weekend.

Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston said Australia was recognised around the world for its approach to conserving fish stocks, giving consumers assurance their seafood purchases were ethical and sustainable.

“We know that Australia produces some of the best seafood in the world, but we also need to recognise that effectively managing our fisheries ensures future generations can enjoy our seafood too,” Minister Ruston said.

“Sustainability and safeguarding our fisheries is our top priority.

“For the past four years, no solely Commonwealth-managed fishery was classified as being subject to overfishing.

“We also work with other nations in the Asia -Pacific region to support the sustainability of their fisheries, and cooperate at a high level with our neighbours to combat illegal fishing.

“I know our fishers have been working hard to ensure Australians have access to high-quality seafood fresh off the boat and I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy that produce this Good Friday.”
