Even though agriculture cannot be covered by an Emissions Trading Scheme, the Australian Government must take steps to ensure consumers can still afford basic food items as substantial price hikes become ‘the norm’.
The Ross Garnaut Draft Report on Climate Change released has acknowledged that agriculture faces huge costs and challenges from an Emissions Trading Scheme, according to the Queensland Farmers’ Federation.
The release of the Garnaut Report has recommended agriculture not be included in any initial emissions trading scheme as Australia moves to a carbon constrained economy.
