AUSVETPLAN biosecurity winner

AUSVETPLAN winner at 2016 Australian Biosecurity Awards.

The Australian Veterinary Emergency Plan (AUSVETPLAN) Technical Review Group (TRG) received a prestigious Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Australian Biosecurity Award.

This award recognises the outstanding contribution the TRG – a group of technical experts representing the Commonwealth and state and territory agriculture departments, and the Australian Animal Health Laboratory – has made to the integrity of Australian biosecurity, said Animal Health Australia’s (AHA) Executive Manager of Emergency Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Services,  Peter Dagg.

“As Chair of the TRG, AHA is honoured to accept this award on behalf of the TRG members for their work in improving emergency animal disease policies and planning.”

“This year marks AUSVETPLAN’s 25th anniversary, so this award is a timely acknowledgment of TRG’s role in preparing Australia for animal disease outbreaks and their significant contribution to Australia’s ongoing biosecurity integrity,” said Dr Dagg.

AUSVETPLAN is a comprehensive set of manuals that outline the various roles, responsibilities and policy guidelines during a response to emergency animal disease outbreak in Australia.

“These manuals are under constant review by the TRG, who work tirelessly to ensure they contain the latest advances in biosecurity strategy. AUSVETPLAN is a truly Australian initiative, unique in the world of animal health, and is regarded as the international benchmark for emergency animal disease responses,” said Dr Dagg.

The 2016 Australian Biosecurity Awards were presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources the Hon. Barnaby Joyce MP in Canberra on Tuesday 1 March 2016.
